Active Transportation Plan

Gig on the Go: City of Gig Harbor's Active Transportation Plan

Gig Harbor’s Active Transportation Plan (ATP), or Gig on the Go, supports a healthy, connected community by enhancing opportunities for walking, biking, and rolling throughout the city. From lively sidewalks downtown to the popular Cushman Trail, active transportation is already a vital part of daily life for residents and visitors. The ATP builds on that momentum by identifying projects that make it safer and easier for people of all ages and abilities to move around without a car.

The 2025 Active Transportation Plan was adopted by city council via Resolution 1347 in November 2025 and aligns with the city’s Comprehensive Plan, Capital Facilities Plan, and Parks, Recreation, and Open Space (PROS) Plan. Together, these documents lay the foundation for a more accessible, vibrant, and sustainable future.

2025 updates to the ATP

The city completed an update to its Active Transportation Plan in 2025 to align with updates to the Transportation Element of the Comprehensive Plan. As the community’s vision and priorities evolve, so do the goals for a well-connected, safe, and accessible transportation network. This update ensures that the Active Transportation Plan supports the city’s broader transportation strategies, reflects current conditions and growth patterns, and integrates new data, design standards, and community feedback. The 2025 ATP includes updates to the city’s short-term and long-term project list. The result is a forward-looking plan that better serves people walking, biking, and rolling in Gig Harbor.

Public involvement

Public involvement was a critical component of the 2025 Active Transportation Plan. The City of Gig Harbor values community input and is committed to shaping a transportation system that reflects the needs and priorities of the people who use it every day.

The city sincerely thanks everyone who participated in the July/August 2025 online survey, and the October 2025 public commenting period. Your feedback provided valuable insight into how residents and visitors walk, bike, and roll throughout the city, and it helped guide the priorities and projects included in the adopted plan.
