The Gig Harbor Police Department C.O.P.S. Volunteers offer free vacation checks of your residence while you are away for three weeks or less. Please verify that you live inside the city limits of Gig Harbor to qualify for this service. Next, complete a Residential Vacation Check Request Form and return it to the Gig Harbor Police Department in person, via email at ghpolice@gigharborwa.gov, via fax at 253-851-5657, or mail to Gig Harbor Police Department, 3510 Grandview Street, Gig Harbor, WA 98335.
The Residential Vacation Check program is not the only thing you should do to protect your home while you are away.
· Ask a trusted neighbor to watch your house while you're gone. Leave contact phone numbers with them.
· Don’t allow newspapers or mail to accumulate within view. Contact the U.S. Postal Service to pause your mail delivery.
· Remove garage door openers from vehicles parked in the driveway.
· Have someone mow your lawn.
· Put interior lights on a timer and leave a radio on a talk show channel.
