[ARCHIVED] Determination of Nonsignificance Gig Harbor Sports Complex 1A

The project proposal includes improvements to parcel Pierce County Assessor parcel number (APN) 4002470011. The project will develop the site with two multipurpose sports fields with synthetic turf, LED lighting, spectator seating, 100 new parking spaces, and a storage building. The multipurpose fields will be used by all ages for soccer, football, and lacrosse. 

 

The project proposal is for Phase 1A of the two-phase Gig Harbor Sports Complex development which includes the four lots west of Harbor Hill Drive, and north of the existing YMCA, as well as the YMCA property, Pierce County Assessor’s Parcel Numbers (APNs) 4002470020 (YMCA), 4002470012 (Phase 1B), 4002470011 (Phase 1A), and 4002470090 (wetland tract). 

 

The applicant has received approval for a performance-based height exception (PBHE) to allow six 70-foot light poles and a variance to setback requirements in GHMC 17.54.030.B.1 to allow field lighting within the 150-foot setback from the residential development to the west.

 

After review of a completed environmental checklist and other information on file with the agency, the City of Gig Harbor has determined the above proposal, with mitigation, will not have a probable significant adverse impact on the environment.

A public hearing on the proposed project was held before the City of Gig Harbor Hearing Examiner on July 16, 2024 in the Gig Harbor Civic Center Council Chambers located at 3510 Grandview Street.   The public is invited to comment on this DNS at the public hearing, or by submitting written comments to the above address no later than 5 PM on August 29, 2024. The deadline for appealing the final SEPA Threshold Determination is September 5, 2024
