[ARCHIVED] Road closures, traffic control in place for Sunday’s Race for a Soldier

Drivers may encounter traffic impacts in Gig Harbor North and surrounding areas on Sunday, Sept. 7, during the 15th annual Race for a Soldier, organized by the Permission to Start Dreaming Foundation.

The event includes a 5K and 12K race beginning at the YMCA. The 5K route remains near the YMCA, while the 12K route extends along Cushman Trail, Rosedale Street, Ross Avenue, Novak Street, and Harborview Drive before returning to the YMCA finish line.

What to Expect:

  • Opening ceremony at 7:30 a.m.; races begin at 7:45 and 8 a.m.
  • Intermittent closures and traffic control throughout the racecourse.
  • Northbound Harborview Drive/Burnham Drive (from North Harborview to Harbor Hill) will close from 8 to 10:30 a.m.
  • No vehicular access to Doris Heritage Park during the event.
  • Use caution and watch for runners on roadways until approximately 11 a.m. Cones will separate open lanes from race participants where needed.
