The City of Gig Harbor Water Department has begun its bi-annual water main flushing program. The purpose of this program is to proactively “Flush” or clean the water mains to remove mineral buildup of Iron and Manganese that cause water discoloration issues. These minerals are naturally occurring and found in the underground aquifers that the city draws its water from. These minerals are considered “secondary contaminates” by the Department of Health.
City staff will be flushing the Gig Harbor North area and then move to Burnham Drive, Prentice Ave., Woodworth, and Ringold on weekdays starting on Monday, Oct. 13, and will be in the area through Tuesday, Oct. 21, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Informational A-boards will be placed in your neighborhood providing you with advance notice of our flushing efforts. You may notice a discoloration in your water following this flushing process, this is common and expected and should clear up quickly. We recommend that if you notice discoloration in your water that you refrain from drinking it until it has cleared.
Thank you for your understanding and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the City of Gig Harbor Public Works Water Department at (253) 851-8406.
